Race Season: Join the Marathon Build

Autumn marathons are close. Here's how the club's 12-week build works — and how to jump in.

Race Season: Join the Marathon Build — Stride run club journal cover

The mornings are getting crisp, the autumn races are on the calendar, and this week the club kicks off its 12-week marathon build. Whether you're chasing a personal best or your first-ever 26.2, this is your invitation to jump in.

What the 12-week build looks like

The plan is built around three types of run each week. It's simple by design — consistency beats complexity every time.

Long runs

The Saturday long run is the backbone. It ramps up gradually, week by week, teaching your body to keep going when it gets tired. We run it in pace groups so the distance never feels lonely.

One quality session

Midweek, one tempo or track session builds the speed and strength that make race pace feel comfortable — our Wednesday Tempo Push or Tuesday Track Session. Take your pick.

Easy miles

Everything else is easy. Genuinely easy. The recovery runs are where the training actually sinks in, so we keep them conversational and relaxed.

You don't have to be "a marathoner"

This is the part people get wrong. You don't need to already be fit, fast, or experienced to start a marathon build — you need a starting point and a plan, and we've got the plan. The block scales to every level, from first-timers to sub-3 chasers.

How to jump in

Getting started is easy: come to this Saturday's long run, tell a leader you're building for a marathon, and we'll point you to the right pace group. The full 12-week block goes out in the members' chat this week. You don't have to figure it out alone — that's what the club is for.
